Among the eclectic lineup of musicians Frozen Dead Guy Days 2024, is Andy Frasco. The celebrated songwriter, along with his band, Andy Frasco and The U.N., is set to take the stage as one of the headliners at the March 16 event.
Frasco, who has been honing his craft for over a decade, views music as a powerful tool for connection. "It's taken 15 years to become a musician. It's taken 11 years to finally like really dial in and try to you know, write songs that mean something to me," said Frasco.
With Frozen Dead Guy Days just around the corner, Frasco expressed his enthusiasm for spending time with the community in Estes Park. "I like to, you know, put the perspective of optimism with not so much sugarcoat. It's like, we're all going through hard times, let's just like try to fight through the tough times," he remarked.
Reflecting on his journey as a musician, Frasco recalls how he fell in love with music during his senior year of high school. Inspired by a concert featuring Damien Rice, he made the bold decision to pursue music wholeheartedly, leaving college after just one semester to embark on his musical journey. "I saw a concert, Damien Rice, a songwriter from Ireland, and I was so inspired, I quit school when I was one semester in and I had like $10,000 left in my from my Bar Mitzvah fund or something like that. I bought a van and I have been traveling ever since," he said.
Although Frasco initially started his musical career in Los Angeles, he found a true home in Colorado, particularly Denver, where he was able to shed the superficial aspects of the industry and focus on his artistry. "I had to leave LA to, you know, actually become an artist instead of this materialistic idea of what an artist is, I wanted to actually be one so I moved to Denver, and it changed my life," he said.
Despite touring internationally, Frasco feels a personal connection to Frozen Dead Guy Days, citing an experience from his past as part of the reason for his participation in the festival. "I went to it in Nederland with my ex-girlfriend, and we broke up. I felt like it was she was a good girl. She always wanted me to play this festival, and now that we're not together, I still want to do it for her. So I said yes," Frasco explained.
In addition to the personal significance, Frasco is also intrigued by the festival's unique attractions, including its namesake frozen dead guy. "I'm excited to see a dead dude. Let's go. Let's go Estes Park, let’s pop this off!" he exclaimed.
