Two Days in Estes

First Visit,
Full Experience

Spend one day taking in the iconic scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park, then use day two to discover the attractions, local flavor and easygoing moments that make Estes Park worth exploring all on its own.

Park time.
Town time.
Morning

Choose Your Park Adventure

If you secured a Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservation, begin with two of Rocky Mountain National Park's most recognizable lakes.

Bear Lake

A roughly 0.6-mile loop with minimal elevation gain and classic mountain scenery.

Sprague Lake

A roughly 0.8-mile, mostly flat and accessible loop with views across the water.

Looking for more trail time? Consider Alberta Falls, Nymph Lake or Emerald Lake. Review total distance, elevation gain and current trail conditions before setting out.

No Bear Lake Road Reservation?

No problem. Make Trail Ridge Road the focus of your morning and stop at scenic overlooks as the landscape changes around you.

Late Morning

Take the High Road

Continue along Trail Ridge Road and make time for several of the park's wide-open viewpoints. Possible stops include Many Parks Curve, Forest Canyon Overlook and Rock Cut.

When it is open for the season, stop at the Alpine Visitor Center. It is a convenient place to stretch your legs, use the restroom, find a light snack and take in alpine views from more than 11,000 feet.

Keep watch for elk, marmots, pikas and bighorn sheep. Always give wildlife plenty of room and use your camera's zoom instead of moving closer.

Afternoon

Refuel, Then Follow the River

After a morning of mountain views and fresh air, you have earned a great lunch. Head back into Estes Park and refuel at a local favorite.

Claire's Restaurant and Bar

A relaxed sit-down meal near the center of downtown.

Lonigan's Saloon Nightclub & Grill

Burgers, sandwiches and a casual mountain-town atmosphere.

The Barrel

Outdoor seating, drinks and rotating food trucks.

Full Throttle Distillery & Grill

House spirits and hearty comfort food.

Once you have refueled, wander along the Downtown Riverwalk, browse locally owned shops and galleries, or stop for a sweet treat. Riverwalk dining options also include Poppy's Pizza & Grill, Mama Rose's Restaurant, Ed's Cantina & Grill and Casa Grande.

Evening

End at an Estes Park Icon

As the day winds down, head to The Stanley Hotel. Reserve a tour if you want to explore its history, then leave time to walk the grounds, admire the architecture and take in the mountain views.

For a memorable sit-down dinner, consider Cascades Restaurant & Lounge. Looking for something more casual? The Post Chicken & Beer offers comfort food and a relaxed atmosphere on the property.

A historic tour, a slow stroll and a good meal make a fitting finale to your first full day in Estes Park.
