Walk in the footsteps of the remarkable women who homesteaded, explored, and protected the Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Join us for a half-day educational experience exploring the remarkable women who helped shape the history of Rocky Mountain National Park and the surrounding Estes Valley. Participants will travel through scenic landscapes to walk in the footsteps of pioneering women such as Isabella Bird, Anna Wolfrom Dove, Esther Burnell, and Bettie Willard. Through storytelling, discussion, and site visits, we will uncover the challenges and triumphs of the women who homesteaded, created art, and found inspiration in these mountains, illuminating their lasting impact on the cultural and natural legacy of the region.

Who: Participants ages 16 and up.

Program level: Easy – Appropriate for most participants. Expect frequent short walks with ample breaks. Participants will be walking on paved or hardened surfaces with moderate slopes and occasional stairs. Transportation will be on a 15-passenger vehicle with stairs to enter. ADA accessible transportation is available upon request. Participants will travel in vehicles to elevations above 10,000 feet.

This program is entirely field based.

When: Wednesday, September 9th, 2026 9:00am-1:00pm

Where: Meet at the Fall River Visitor Center, 3450 Fall River Road, Estes Park, CO 80517, and travel together to various locations within RMNP in Conservancy vehicles. All required fees and permits are included in your registration.
