This event brings together leading fire ecologists, forest researchers, and restoration experts to examine how fire has shaped Colorado’s landscapes and how land managers are responding to rapidly changing conditions. Speakers will explain why fire is a critical ecological process in Colorado forests, drawing on fire‑ecology principles and tree‑ring research to illustrate how historical fire patterns differ from those seen today. The program will also address how climate change, drought, and insect outbreaks are stressing forests and influencing modern fire behavior. Additional sessions will highlight current management strategies such as Potential Operational Delineations (PODs), emerging technologies, and the lessons learned from restoration efforts following the East Troublesome and Cameron Peak Fires, including reforestation, erosion control, and watershed recovery.
