Estes Park, Colorado’s quintessential mountain town and basecamp to Rocky Mountain National Park, has earned the accolade of Best Mountain Town in Sunset’s 2018 Travel Awards.

Sunset’s editors cited our “full roster of outdoor activities (fly fishing! camping! hiking!)”, our proximity to one of America’s most popular national parks, and the ease of driving here from the Front Range. They also called out our free outdoor music events and epic autumn foliage.

“Sunset has long been one of the top lifestyle and travel mags in the West, and we’re honored to be their Best Mountain Town,” says Visit Estes Park’s interim CEO, Shannon Davis. “The entire list is full of surprising life list material, and their write-up about Estes Park makes me want to climb at Performance Park and find an empty trail in Rocky Mountain National Park—and it will for its readers, too.”

To be considered, cities, towns, businesses, attractions and services from the 13 Western United States filled out a questionnaire and submitted photos and other supporting materials to make a compelling argument for their recognition. Sunset editors then voted in the “best of” based on the submissions received.
